It is very important for us, before we start working for the magazine, to figure out our target audience. Who is going to buy and read it?
Knowing this kind of information is useful in multiple ways, it helps us decide on the genre of our magazine, what type of magazine we want to create as well as what designs to go for, what type of content is our audience interested in? How should it look in order to appeal to our audience?
To find out all this information, we made a google forms questionnaire.
After discussing as a group what the questions should be, and looking at other google forms examples from our colleagues, we decided we wanted our questions to be simple and straight-forward, we strictly want to know what genres they prefer, their age, where they read their magazines and what types of people they are.
We promoted our questionnaire by sending it to the people we know, while also posting it on our Instagram stories (our personal accounts and our magazine account). We got a total of 68 responses.
Because we posted the questionnaire to our Instagram stories, most of the answers were from people we knew - friends. family, colleagues. So ultimately, the results are not the most accurate representation of the market. Despite this we found out a lot of useful information.
Since our magazine is youth oriented, we were happy to see that most of our responses indicate that our audience is young and that most of them enjoy fashion magazines the most.
Here are some final statistics from the questionnaire:
Sample size = 68 people
Age = Mostly teeenagers (75% 16-18)
genre = fashion (61.8%)
Medium = online (79.4%)
Group = explorer (44%)
