DIGIPAK COVER
We chose to analyse Melanie Martinez's digipak cover from her album Crybaby as the song which we will be using for the music video is "Carousel" from this album.
The first thing we noticed when looking at the digipak is that it's very colourful, and childlike, creating a collage style composition. As conventions, she has the title of the album, as well as a parental advisory label on the bottom. The main focus is drawn to the middle of the cover, where we see Melanie on a raining cloud, crying. This reflects the title of the album "Crybaby". To even further compliment this, she's dressed in childish clothes, with her signature colourful split dyed hair. The colour scheme is a blend of blues and pinks, the classic colours associated with baby boys and girls. Overall the entire digipak follows a very strong theme, and this can be seen in all of the elements, with the illustrations and visual elements perfectly complimenting the title of the album.
INSTAGRAM PAGE Melanie's Instagram page is definitely unique, and captures the audience's attention.
Her username is not her name, instead she chose a more abstract and unique approach, naming her account @littlebodybigheart. This differentiates her from other artists or celebrities who typically have their full name, or stage name as their username. In her bio however she includes her full name, allowing people to identify her if they're not sure who she is, as well as including her pronouns, and the names of her two albums and a link to her website. This is a very suitable introduction for an artist's social media page, allowing even people who are completely new to her music and don't know who she is, to know some basic information about her. Her posts then continue to draw attention, and offer even more insight into her personality, and the image which she is trying to portray to the public.
Her posts are definitely formulated to draw attention, with very interesting imagery and unique compositions. She uses a lot of pink and warm tones in the cooler scheme of her posts, keeping an air of innocence, while also peppering in some more explicit/risque elements in order to keep her posts interesting and captivating. The filters which she uses also give a bit of a vintage feel, with some of her posts being a bit washed out or grainy. Overall, the image which she is portraying of herself to her audience is a very mysterious one, and keeps her followers guessing what her next post will be.
